Retiro Station
The railroad was one of the most important advances to unify the national territory, having the base of operations in Buenos Aires. The Railroad Station of Retiro Ramal Miter was inaugurated, after six years of work, in 1915, at that time it was one of the largest stations in the world. For its design was taken as a model European railways of the nineteenth century, the materials for its construction were brought, mostly, from Britain.
In 1997 the station was declared a national monument, as a result of this, during the years 2000 to 2017 restoration work was carried out on the façade and building facilities, the result of which is what you can see today.
This railway station that connects the Federal Capital with the northern part of the province of Buenos Aires during working days and at specific times becomes the transit zone par excellence. It is estimated that the flow of passengers traveling by train (all branches) with revenue to the Federal Capital is 1,140,000 per business day.
Tips
When it was inaugurated, it was stated that the hydraulic bumpers at the end of the rails were the most powerful in the world, able to withstand the onslaught of a 750-tonne train at a speed of 16 km/h.
