Don't miss anything

Sayil Palace

In the central part of the room, the reproduction of the façade of the Sayil Palace in Yucatan, combined with a large collection of sculpture, especially stelae and lintels from Yaxchilan.

Sayil is together with Uxmal and Kabah one of the great cities of Puuc. Sayil reached its maximum development in the Terminal Classic, around the year 900, when it covered an area of approximately 5 square kilometers and its population reached perhaps 17,000 inhabitants, of which half would have lived in surrounding areas.

The Palace has three levels and multiple rooms that the Mayans built over several years. It was the place where the ruling family lived, but its use was not only residential but also administrative functions were concentrated there.
