The umbrella

Get closer to see the details. This column is an impressive demonstration of modern architecture. Its shape, holding the central roof, reminds us of the sacred and mythological tree of the prehispanic Indians. If you look in the middle, the Mexican identity is represented, a mixture of the indigenous and European culture. Below, the sun, and around the eagle and the jaguar that symbolize the opposite elements of the universe.

The work was carried out by the brothers José and Tomás Chávez Morado. José designed it and Tomás sculpted it. It is made mainly of concrete and "the umbrella" is held on steel struts

This work has the name "the umbrella" and the bronze high relief that covers it is called "Image of Mexico". Many times, a continuous stream of waterfalls; transforms it as an inverted fountain
