The Hall of the Mayans
The Mayan civilization covered an extensive region in southern Mesoamerica, including Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador as shown in this relief map. Divided into north, center, and south, the map locates the most important cities through the mountainous and jungle geography of almost 400 thousand km2 south of Mexico. In southeastern Mexico and part of Central America, the peoples who spoke the Mayan languages began their cultural development approximately 2000 years before our era. This room brings together representative elements of one of the most brilliant pre-Hispanic cultures, the Mayans who excelled in science, art and the construction of large cities, politically organized in independent states and were also powerful warriors.
